Indian Government is accountable for guaranteeing the defence of India and all parts thereof. The President of India is the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. The duties for national defence rest with the Cabinet. These responsibilities are discharged through the Ministry of Defence. This ministry is responsible for providing the policy framework and wherewithal to the Armed Forces to discharge their responsibilities in the context of the defence of the country. In India we also call Defence Ministry as Raksha mantralaya.
